Pie Posted this over in the

, but seemed like it would be of interest to people here.
Sort of interesting though I’m bothered by the fact that at least for Massachusetts, the route shown on the map is completely wrong.

Anyway, not sure how accurate this is it seems like the obvious metric would be average vehicle miles traveled per mile of road, but mildly interesting at least.

I am a little skeptical of PA's contribution, route 32. It is definitely scenic, as it follows along the Delaware river and past the point where Washington made the famous crossing. But loneliest? It's not far from Philly, and has several popular stops along the way. Something out in the empty middle part of the state seems more likely to be lonely. Try driving 32 on a nice Sunday in the summer and tell me how lonely you feel.

Yeah, that looked a little weird to me as well.

The one in Indiana is an hour away from me. I know what I'm doing this weekend!

For NM, I’d say it’s a bit dubious . There isn’t a state road 56 in the portion of NM the map shows, but there is a state road 456. I’d bet my next paycheck that there are lesser traveled state roads than it out in various parts of Western NM.

US-50 in Utah looks like an absolute blast of a way to drive through UT.

That’s a bit far for me this weekend but I’d be interested in a trip report.

Pretty sure 50 through Arizona
is lonelier than 50 through Utah.

I’m never lonely when I go for a drive on a deserted road. I always have a passenger in the trunk......I’ve said too much.

Hwy
50 = I-70 for more than half of Utah.

It’s definitely an interesting list, but maybe just “less-traveled scenic routes” would be more accurate.
Also, 2 of the 3 pics for Route 2 in NH are not from Route 2. Clearly one is the Mt Washington Auto Road (top) -which sees far less traffic than Route 2, by the way . Then bottom left is from the top of King Ravine looking down in the distance at Route 2, where the trailhead is. Still, Route 2 is beautiful - you’re looking up at these mountains from the north side on a clear day.

Hmmm 212 in Wyoming is beartooths Highway. I’ve been there. It sees quite a bit of traffic being connected to Yellowstone at one end.

The 160 is a great drive. I once came upon a group of Germans driving vintage Harley Davi dsons on that road. There’s a bunch of old, abandoned stuff out that way, and a very talented graf fi ti/wheat paste artist who’s been tagging up everything on the 160, 89 and 89A.

Nebraska’s are wrong and so are Iowa’s. The article mentioned having issues with geotags.

With that said Highway 73 in South Dakota was a very cool way to spend a Friday morning earlier this year.

Utah US 50... I.e. I70? For real? Its not I15 but its pretty busy, and its not like Utah doesn’t have a lot quieter highways that a US interstates.

Yeah, 32 gets pretty jammed in the summer, and I don’t think there’s any time of year where you won’t have at least a few other cars behind and in front of you.

The fact that it’s a double yellow would automatically disqualify it, and all the houses/tourist stops mean there’s people there. Tons of roads running through state forests that are “lonelier ”. Even if it has to be a numbered highway to be considered a “road”, there’s definitely less traffic in the north-central part of the state, like 872 or 144. And labeling it as 10th loneliest in the country ?

I grew up in Bucks County, moved away about 6 years ago, but still n ot that far away now. Used to work summers at a place near Point Pleasant when I was in college.

120 is a nice scenic road beyond Lock Haven. Definitely less traveled than 32.

I drive on US 385 in eastern Colorado fairly often for work. It’s awesome to drive on a road for a while and never have to pass anyone.
